Las Vegas Health Insurance, How Can I afford it?

One of the most critical issues being faced by the citizens of the state of Nevada and Las Vegas in particular is that of health insurance or health care coverage. With all the importance being stressed on health insurance by public officials and on television, Las Vegas remains to be one of the states with the highest number of uninsured population, with over 30% still under insured or with no insurance at all.

With the current shape of the economy, many families are struggling financially. Health insurance can easily help a family get through medical emergencies when money flow is tight, especially, if you or any of your family members fall in the high risk pool. None of us are guaranteed a healthy and accident free life, as a matter of fact, almost every individual falls ill or meets with an accident at sometime in their lives. With medical treatment costs soaring with each passing day, a major illness or accident could eat up a huge chunk of a person’s savings and even force him into filing for bankruptcy. Health insurance is deemed as a necessity to help relieve people of financial stress in such times.

Children are most prone to illnesses and accidents, especially school going children. Playground accidents are one type that can never be avoided with children and teenagers. Other common ways children and young adults can get into accidents or catch illnesses include: falling off bicycles, getting injured while playing sports, eating a lot of junk food, catching a viral disease or infection. Children’s hospital bills can be very high and without a proper health care coverage, you may be liable to pay for all the medical bills.

What if I can’t afford Las Vegas Health Insurance

With the new Affordable Care Act, “Obamacare” there are subsidies for individuals and families that make up to 400 percent of the federal poverty level.  Also, the subsidy goes up with the amount of dependents that you support.  For example, an individual making up to $45,960 can receive a subsidy, but that same person can make up to $62,040 if he had one additional dependent.  This subsidy makes sure that you don’t ever have to come out of pocket for your premium more than 9 percent of your income at any time.

If your employer does not provide health insurance or you simply can’t afford the plan being offered, check into Las Vegas public health plans or other medical care plans that may suit your needs and budget. Families who cannot afford insurance with any of the private insurance corporations can apply for medicaid government health care insurance. Eligibility will only be determined once you complete the application process.

Health insurance is considered unessential by many people. What they don’t understand is that, although they might not need it every week or every month, when an unexpected visit to the doctor comes up, medical insurance really helps take the undesired stress off your wallet. Most people use their health care cover just a couple of times a year, but without health insurance they might have to spend all of their savings on those visits only. With the new health insurance plans of the Affordable Care Act, preventative visits are free.  Health care is very expensive and in the case of a prolonged injury or disease even the most well off people cannot afford the costs of the treatment in a good hospital. A major operation and post operation treatment can cost about $100,000 and without health insurance it could become very hard to pay all the bills.

All the citizens of Las Vegas need proper health care coverage and when it is not provided by the employer, private and state funded health insurance plans are available. Going without the proper health insurance coverage could result in dire financial circumstances for you and your family.  Contact your local health insurance agent, for more information about health care options for you and your family.
